Tyre model isn't finished. I hope there can be flats like you described in some future patch.

I can just image the whining that will cause.

I think your friend got it right.

Kill that Windows folder!

The funny thing is that even if you delete everything windows will run perfectly untill it tries to load a .dll file or start a program

PS. Thanks for the update.

The only problem is that after a few years no one will even remember what drifting is...

Quote from DragonCommando :Actualy, 18 wheelers use drums because they are air operated. making disk air brakes would over complicate things.

Don't know how things are on the new continent, but we here on the old one have been using disk air brakes on our lorries and semis for many years.

Yes, and I want to know how the machine really works.

The reason I'm continuously fighting myself to not dismantle my DFP and see what makes it tick.

What would have happened if FIA decided to ban McClaren from season 2008?

Severe drop in ratings -> less moneys -> no more cashola for Bernie.

So ofcourse they will let McClaren in on the 2008 season.

Exatly same thing as the case about Renault spying on McClaren. If FIA had put a 100mill penalty on Renault, as it should have done to be fair, it would have gone bust. No more Renault on season 2008.

Again dropped ratings etc.

The whole F1 is a political crappy sport that has almost nothing to do with racing.

Remember a few years back when the car manufacturers were thinking of putting up a formula series of their own? This was a time when Ferrari totally dominated the scene and many people criticised this. Ferrari bugged out because it made a seperate deal with bernie for some money. Next season Ferrari was strugling to keep up with the other top teams. Top team to middle class in one jump. Or did they lose on purpose to get the ratings up?

Don't know, don't care. F1 is crap nowadays.
I grant that the championship was close, but every single race was boring as hell.

I second what Bandit77 said.

The new physics require new settings. But if you make a set that is good to drive for you personally. Then the possibility that it's drivable even after a physics update is better.

I think the really fast sets are ones that exploit the weakneses of the physics model and as a result they don't survive physics updates.

Yes the sign(+ -) changes to make the equations look nicer and lead people to misunderstand physics.

But the facts don't.

Choosing the right inertial frame of reference can make the sun orbit the earth. Do you think that is a fact? Or just a misinterpretation?

Maybe there should be an option to set your favourite set for any combo.
Though this would help only those who have a different set for every track and for the first race after track change.

For us, who can't drive fast enough to warrant minute changes in sets, it wouldn't be very usefull.

I like this suggestion a lot! And I hate those after the finish line pile ups.

It could be kind of like the park ferme(sp?) after a RL race. If you don't go to the pits you are DQd.
Even the new AI can do this so why not the people racers.

Or maybe if you didn't go to the pits after the race. You would start the next race as is. No tyre change, no refueling, no damage fixed etc.

I'm beginning to like this idea even more!

Quote from w126 :Well, one is an inertial reference frame, the other is not.

Our planet is orbiting the Sun. Our solar system is orbiting the center of the Milkyway. Our galaxy is whizzing through space at a mindboggling speed. But it all depends on how accurate you want to be.

The fact of the matter is that there is no force acting on the car to "throw it off the track". And your shopping that toples over because of your driving. Is not acted upon by some arbitrary fictional force. It is just trying to keep going straight when it's surroundings are taking a curved path. The reason it toples over and doesn't slam into your door, is the friction between it and the seat.

Another exaple of the same phenomena (WYSINWYG) is when you hit a a wall with a car. The car stops but you keep going untill the seatbelts/steeringwheel/wall stops you. Same for the Firstaid kit on your parcelshelf. There is no WallForce the drag it forward. It's the LACK of a stopping force that makes it fly forward. Untill, ofcourse, it hits the back of your head. Then it is acted upon by a force and slows down.

Quote from Shotglass :but why would you look at the forces acting on the car from a stationary observers pov instead of coordinates attached to the car?

There isn't any difference.
Except for notation. Untill you reach the speeds that require relativity to be taken into account.

Bandit77, you sure know your physics.

Why can't the dews just make LFS use only three buttons. Button #1 is for racing. Button #2 is for drifting. And button #3 is for cruising.

You just go to a server and press the appropriate button and away you go. The software takes care of the rest.

Ofcourse it should be a server side option to be able to limit these functions as no one would like a cruiser on a race server. Or vice versa.

Quote from Bandit77 :if you want to be a smart-ass, then tell me why the LACK of centripetal force doesn't lift my wheels when bolting down a straight...

the lack of a force moves something... that's interesting, really.

Reattend your physics course.

To turn (move in a NOT straight line) reguires a force. If that force is not strong enough you will not turn enough. A turning car recieves that force from the friction between the road surface and the tyres. Because the contact patch between the tyres and road is lower than the COG (centre of gravity) of the car the friction force creates a torque force that results in making the car lean.

For a vehicle (or any particle) to travel in a straight line the sum of all lateral forces must be zero. Otherwise the path will be curved.

A easy and safe test to figure this out is:
You need a clear table (one that is not cluttered with junk).
A piece of paper (A4 size or similar, not glossy).
A top heavy plastic cup or other similar nonbreaking piece of equipment that has its COG high.

Put the piece of paper on the table. Put the topheavy cup on it.
Now yank the paper from under the topheavy cup.
Notice in which direction the cup falls. It falls to the opposite direction from the one you pulled the paper to. How is this possible?
The reason is the same as when a car leans in a turn.
Torque.

Disclaimer: Simplified explanation that does not take the suspensions roll center into account. And when I'm talking about torque I don't mean the engines torque.

When have they added a 20 ton truck to LfS? Why wasn't I informed!

Besides, if you compare LfS vehicles to real life ones you are bound to notice they are mostly of the older kind.

Quote from BrandonAGr :No, currently you can use it while online.

I stand corrected.

I think of the new racing line as an instructor who tels you when to apply brakes and the lot. I don't think it should be active online. Atleast it should be a server side option.

Same with the different F-screens. Just a representation of all the (what the hell is the word for the live data feed that the pit crew is getting from the car?) the pit crew gets.

Just tried driving with mouse and KB. I will NEVER understand how anyone can drive with them! Anyway, manual throtle cut and blip works just fine. Don't understand what the fuss is about.

The blip, any which way you make it, would be a good addition for those with combined pedals.
